Information we collect
- Account information: Google or Apple account identifier, email address, display name, and optional profile photo.
- Location information: precise coordinates, accuracy, altitude, speed, heading, timestamps and related motion metadata when you enable location sharing.
- Circle information: circles, memberships, invitations, sharing choices, places, and arrival or departure events.
- Device information: platform, installation identifier, session information, push token, and last-seen time.
- Operational information: limited security, reliability and request logs needed to operate and protect the service.
How we use information
We use this information to authenticate you, show locations to the private circles you select, deliver requested alerts, maintain account security, diagnose failures and comply with law. We do not sell personal information or use precise location for advertising.
When information is shared
Your shared location, profile and place activity are visible to members of circles you join according to your settings. Service providers process limited information on our behalf, including Google or Apple for sign-in, Cloudflare for hosting and storage, and Expo for push delivery.
Your choices and controls
Location sharing is opt-in per circle. You can stop sharing, leave a circle, change notification settings, remove your photo, export your data, delete location history or delete your account. Device operating-system controls can also restrict background location and notifications.
Retention
Location history is retained for up to 24 hours. The latest location is replaced by newer samples and removed when you delete location history or your account. Invitations remain until expiry or acceptance. Push tokens remain until revoked, replaced or the device or account is deleted. Account, circle, place and event records remain while needed to provide the service and are removed with the relevant account or circle.
Security and international processing
We use access controls, encrypted transport, protected sessions and encrypted push-token storage. No system is perfectly secure. Cloud services may process information in countries other than your own, subject to their contractual and legal safeguards.
Children
Circles is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum digital-consent age in their country. A parent or guardian must provide any consent required by local law.
